Karpura (କର୍ପୁର) in English is known as Camphor. It is natural camphor also known as Bhimseni Kapoor.
Camphor is mainly used in aarti during worship. Camphor has a very strong odor and is a highly flammable substance. Karpura not only purifies the house and environment but is also useful for health. The English name of Gandha Karpura (ଗନ୍ଧ କର୍ପୁର) is Naphthalene balls. These are white colored ball, which are used in clothes, bathrooms, toilets etc. It is a special tablet made from naphthalene powder, which works to kill bacteria and remove odor.
These balls are often used to preserve seasonal clothes for a long time, so that they are in the same condition even when removed and the clothes also have a pleasant smell. Naphthalene balls can easily dissolve in air, a process also known as “evaporation”. It can not an edible substance, it is poisonous.
